Now that the 2025 NFL Pre-Season is in full swing, the fantasy community sees itself kicking into high gear. Now, the casual drafters make their yearly return in August to join the rest of us degenerates.
This can be an interesting time for serious drafters as some of the players that they have been targeting or avoiding all offseason have suddenly seen a dramatic change in their ADP. The household names who have seen their fantasy value plummet. The Austin Ekeler‘s begin to creep up the draft boards as the casual drafters gravitate towards names they know.
Casual draft season can be rewarding and frustrating at the same time. It’s where the truly sharp managers make their money. Suddenly, rookie fever caused by mass dynasty drafts has begun to subside, and these players have become valuable again.
These drafts are incredibly easy to exploit if you know what to look for. As I mentioned above, avoiding name-brand veterans and targeting high-upside rookies can be profitable. The best strategy I’ve employed is studying and ultimately “Hacking the Ranks”.
Hacking the Ranks
You may be asking yourself, What exactly does ‘Hacking the Ranks’ mean? Well, that’s simple. Unlike the degenerate fantasy managers who enter each draft with spreadsheets and pages of rankings, the casual drafters tend to use the site rankings of the fantasy platform they play on.
Inevitably, these rankings will have inconsistencies with your rankings and will provide opportunities to target or avoid players who are ranked well outside the usual rankings. For this study, I chose to use the 2025 Fantasy Pros Expert Consensus Rankings. You can use whichever data source you prefer, including the FSAN Consensus Rankings.
The table included below shows the Top 250 players in 1QB ECR and compares that to their rankings on each of the main sites. The differential column next to that site’s ranks illustrates the difference between that site and the ECR ranks. A negative number indicates that the player is being drafted earlier than the consensus on that platform. A positive number means they are being drafted later than consensus.
The table also includes the average ranking of all the sites combined, as well as the earliest and latest times they are available on any of the platforms. I will also go through each site to highlight some general trends that I noted. I will also mention a few players I’m targeting or avoiding on that platform.

Sleeper Takeaways
The obvious values on Sleeper were the middle tier of quarterbacks. The group of Justin Fields, Dak Prescott, and even Caleb Williams is going to be significantly later on Sleeper than they are on any other platform. Perhaps the best values were the key pieces of the Cleveland Browns offense, which is going to be an ongoing theme. Cedric Tillman and Jerome Ford are both going two rounds later than their ADP on average. They are two of my favorite value picks in the later rounds.
On the flip side, Sleeper is not the place if you like running backs. The young, high-upside type running backs such as Brashard Smith and Bhayshul Tuten are being highly overdrafted. Running backs with injuries or off-field concerns, such as Joe Mixon and Quinshon Judkins, continue to hold their early ADP despite serious concerns about their availability.
If Sleeper is your platform of choice, you may want to grab your running backs early and quarterbacks late. Those two areas are the best strategy on Sleeper.
ESPN Takeaways
On ESPN Fantasy, the value for QB2s is still solid. As the previously mentioned quarterbacks are still coming at a huge discount. On ESPN, the group grows to include some later dart throws like Bryce Young and Michael Penix Jr.
Once the elite quarterbacks are selected on ESPN, the rest of the league seems to be punting the rest. While ESPN is also an expensive platform for running backs, where it differs from Sleeper is a significantly lower cost for “dart throw” running backs. I am much more likely to take a shot on Jordan Mason, Kyle Monangai, and Roschon Johnson on ESPN, where the value is much greater.
Where ESPN suffers is at wide receiver. The site rankings show a mix of older and younger receivers being overvalued. If you want to draft a rookie receiver like Matthew Golden or Jayden Higgins, you are going to have to overpay. Also, if you want a veteran such as Cooper Kupp or Keenan Allen, you will have to overpay.
If ESPN is your platform of choice, I recommend spending your early picks on young, high-upside receivers because the receivers have a higher ADP on ESPN than on any other site. Typically, you fill out a weak receiving corps with rookies and aging veterans, but that is exactly where the worst values are on ESPN. Once again, Cedric Tillman is one of my favorite values on the platform, as well as Demario Douglas and Luther Burden.
CBS Takeaways
CBS is the first platform where we don’t see a discount on any of the quarterbacks. The majority of them are being drafted at or before their ECR. Where CBS greatly differs is at the receiver position. Outside of the elite tier of wide receivers, the rest are coming at a value. Even the second and third tiers of receivers can be had at least a half-round later than in ECR.
Tight end has also been a great value on CBS outside of Brock Bowers and Trey McBride. Managers seem to be drafting the elite pass-catchers and then pushing the rest down the board in favor of running backs and quarterbacks.
The running backs and quarterbacks are going earlier on CBS than on any other platform, and it’s not just the elite running backs. Whether it’s an RB2 you are looking for or just a handcuff to your RB1, you are going to have to draft them earlier than you normally would.
If CBS is your platform of choice, the strategy here is to get your running backs early and then load up on pass-catchers for the majority of the draft. This is one of the few platforms where I would recommend getting your quarterback early. This is not the platform to hunt for quarterback value, because there won’t be any.
Middle-of-the-pack receivers such as Jakobi Meyers and Marvin Mims are my favorite targets. Jet’s running back Braelon Allen, who is worth a shot in a messy New York backfield, is a solid value.
Yahoo Takeaways
Yahoo seems to be the platform that most closely resembles ECR, and as such, doesn’t provide any glaring positional advantages. It is a great platform if you are comfortable with the tier two quarterbacks, such as Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray.
The most obvious value on Yahoo is what we will call the “Flex-WR”. These are guys like Romeo Doubs, Wan’Dale Robinson, and Hollywood Brown. They all have significant WR3/flex appeal, but they are far from league-winner status. If receiver depth is what you like, Yahoo is a great platform to acquire it.
Rookie Fever is in full effect on Yahoo. If they are a rookie running back or receiver, you can assume they will be drafted two rounds earlier or more on Yahoo. This is one platform where I will be avoiding rookies entirely. The return on investment for them is simply not there at these values.
If Yahoo is your platform of choice, you can build a deep receiving corps full of WR3-level talent. Just know it won’t be young or exciting. The veterans are the values on Yahoo; this is not the platform to draft if you are an ageist. My favorite targets on Yahoo are Burden, Mayfield, and Jaydon Blue.
NFL Takeaways
NFL Fantasy is a weird platform to evaluate, as some of its rankings are borderline incomplete. The D/STs are non-existent in the NFL site rankings. They are a great value if you need to draft one. Take that with a grain of salt, as their ADP is affected by leagues that don’t draft a D/ST.
The best and most reliable values in the NFL are the tier two quarterbacks. Some of them, like Drake Maye, Jordan Love, and Justin Herbert, can be drafted almost three rounds later than their ECR value. NFL Fantasy is a great place to wait on a quarterback.
The downside of this quarterback value is that it comes at the expense of many of the RB2/3 and WR2/3 level players being pushed up two rounds in the rankings.
If NFL Fantasy is your platform of choice, have a closer look at their rankings in the table above. Quarterbacks are a value, with running backs and receivers being overpriced. This platform I found to have the least accurate ADP of all platforms. Several players who could have a high RB2 level value are buried so far down in the rankings that I thought I missed them. J.K. Dobbins, for one, could be the RB1 in Denver this year, but is ranked 500th overall in site ADP. Jerome Ford is also excessively buried in their ADP.
NFL Fantasy is the best place for late values if you take the time to scroll through their lengthy ADP list. There is buried treasure to be found. I’m looking to draft Dobbins, Ford, Douglas, and Tillman in all my NFL drafts.
MFL Takeaways
MFL is similar to NFL Fantasy in the sense that their ADPs are somewhat inaccurate. The unique level of customization available on this platform makes it difficult to get a clear view of exactly what is going on. That has created some interesting spots where rookies are being ranked lower on the platform than retired players.
One of the main themes of this article has been that the rookies, particularly running backs, have been overvalued. Not on MFL. On MFL, players like Monangai, Smith, and Blue are all ranked lower than Derek Carr. While those three handcuff-level running backs may not excite you, last I checked, Carr was retired. MFL is the best place to load up on young running back talent; they are all buried.
Conversely, this is probably the worst platform for drafting a quarterback. Even in 1QB rankings, the quarterbacks are ranked so high that I started to question if I had clicked on the Superflex tab by mistake.
If MFL is your platform of choice, it is a great chance to load up on young running backs and handcuff-type players. If a quarterback is what you want, select one early, as they will not stay on the board long. On MFL, I’m targeting rookie running backs and receivers.
