Let’s take a look at who to target on your Week 8 Waiver Wire. In general, these players will be injury replacements or those who I think have a chance to break out.  Remember, it’s unlikely that someone here will be the next fantasy great, but you should find some low-end RB2s, WR3s, and bye week starters with upside potential. Most players listed will be less than 50 percent owned according to FantasyPros Consensus Roster Percentage.

Week 8 Waiver Wire- Quarterbacks Targets

Andy Dalton, Panthers (0.7% Rostered) | 7%-10% FAAB

Andy Dalton is 37 years old, but last year, he showed he can still sling it. In five starts, he had three games over 16 points.  The other two starts were pretty bad from a fantasy perspective, but given that we do not know how long Bryce Young is out for, other than at least a couple of weeks, he’s worth a stash in superflex leagues.  He’s an ok QB2 the next two weeks, but he will face New Orleans in Week 10, and that’s a good match-up.  If you are not secure at QB, consider picking him up.

Aaron Rodgers, Steelers (31.9% Rostered) | 10%-12% FAAB

People love to hate on him, but the bottom line is that Aaron Rodgers was the QB15 last year, despite a couple of horrible weeks. Now he is the QB15.  There are six teams on bye this week, so if you need a quarterback, Rodgers could be a great start in this week’s “revenge” game versus Green Bay. Plus, he has a bottom-third QB opponent in Indianapolis in Week 9. He may be on his way out after this year, but he still can produce at a top level.  He is a great QB2 who will produce QB1 weeks, as I said in Week 2.

Week 8 Waiver Wire- Running Backs

Kyle Monangai, Bears (7.4% Rostered) | 3%-5% FAAB

13 carries, 3 receptions, not bad.  Kyle Monangai is not going to take over for D’Andre Swift (19 carries, 1 catch), but he has steadily been increasing in snap percentage and touches as the season wears on.  He may not be an RB1, but he is an excellent handcuff for Swift and can be a bye-week or injury fill-in, if you need it, much like Tyler Allgeier.

Devin Neal, Saints (1.7% Rostered) | 1%-3% FAAB

Kendre Miller had been getting anywhere from 30 to 40 percent of the snaps lately. Now he is out for the season.  It is clear that the Saints aren’t letting Alvin Kamara play every down, so Devin Neal is a good handcuff with upside.  Stash him if you can.

Week 8 Waiver Wire- Wide Receivers

Wan’Dale Robinson, Giants (53.7% rostered) | 7%-10% FAAB

How is Wan’Dale Robinson less than 60% rostered?  He is clearly Jaxson Dart’s number one receiver, averaging almost eight targets per game since taking over the starting job. He plays Philadelphia this week, and they have been pretty weak against receivers lately, despite a good start to the season.

Tez Johnson, Buccaneers (17.9% rostered) | 6%-9% FAAB

Emeka Egbuka is clearly the number one, but someone has to be the number 2.  Mike Evans is out for the season, or most of it. Chris Godwin is still recovering, so Tez Johnson is the next man up in Tampa Bay’s high-powered offense.  He will be a decent WR3 with upside going forward.

Week 8 Waiver Wire- Tight Ends

Oronde Gadsden II, Chargers (5.6% rostered) | 7%-10% FAAB

With at least 75% of the snaps the last two weeks, Oronde Gadsden has clearly emerged as the TE1 for the Chargers. Obviously, he was phenomenal in Week 7, but temper your expectations; there’s still a lot of target competition in Los Angeles.  Just don’t sleep on him.  Tight ends with Justin Herbert tend to do well, and Gadsden should be no exception.  He’s a great fill-in for your top TEs when they have byes and can even be a good floor play if you are desperate for a flex.

Darnell Washington, Steelers (1.1% rostered) | 3%-5% FAAB

Darnell Washington is an interesting case.  He has two other tight ends who are bigger names than him competing for targets: Jonnu Smith and Pat Freiermuth. That being said, look at the Steelers’ last three games.  Washington has averaged 78 percent of the snaps and 4 targets, compared to 43% and two targets for Freiermuth and 54% and 4 targets for Smith. Aaron Rodgers is known for throwing to his favorites, and it looks like Washington may be emerging as one. Use him as a fill-in as you need it, with 14 teams having byes over the next three weeks, and the Steelers aren’t one of them.
